Films

I really do enjoy watching movies and documentaries, especially since my parents have Netflix.  Some people don’t like Netflix because they don’t have new releases, but they have like every documentary!  Here is a list of movies that made me think, and learn.

This is probably my favorite movie of all time.  A true story on Christmas Eve in World War I.  It shows that once the enemy becomes an actual person to us, it becomes extremely difficult to kill them.  The state must do all it can to prevent this from happening, which is why they try so strongly to demonize “the enemy.”  Beautiful foreign film

Based on a true story in Iran.  It shows the brutality, and dehumanization that must occur for the death penalty to take place.  Obviously, we don’t stone people here in America, but I would argue there is no difference in stoning someone or injecting them with poison.

A movie about imperialism, forgiveness, transformation, and two different understandings of Jesus and love.

This movie is fantastic.  So many great things in it.  A man who is racist, and then transforms by letting himself spend time with the people he hates.

Hilarious movie that also has a lot to say.  What would we be like if we could only tell the truth?  I think the movie does a great job of portraying what our world would be like,… and the names of different buildings.  “F*?! the man in the sky!” may be my favorite line.

Once we let “the stranger”, or whatever you want to call people who are different from us, into our lives we will never view them the same again.  Maybe we could even love them.

It’s the movie about Gandhi, an amazing man and lover of peace and equality.  Just watch it.

There have been several movies based on the Rwanda Genocide in 1994, where roughly 1 million people were killed in 100 days making it the “quickest” genocide on record.  This is the one that I think best draws the viewer into what it may have been like being there.  It also accurately portrays the reaction of the Western World.
