Capitalism and Its Affects on Humanity

I have to say that out of all the books I have read if I was to recommend one single book for a person to read that it would be this one. This book describes how capitalism and neoliberal economics are destroying our country and the rest of the world. Unfortunately, this system is what brings us all of our supposed “blessings”. When you exploit millions of people turns out that you get lots of cheat stuff out of it. Every U.S American should read this book.

This book runs on a lot of similar themes as the Shock Doctrine.  However, this is written by the man that actually went to other countries and screwed them over through loans and development.  So, you get a first-hand look at how our country interacts with others under the mask of “giving loans to help the poor.”  This book is a little easier read than the Shock Doctrine, read it so that you can see the side of our country that you don’t hear about on the news.

A look into the system of injustice that exploits the poor, and how it works.  This book helped me better understand the systems and structures that keep people poor.  It allowed me to understand that simply getting a job does not bring liberation.  The issues run deeper.  It allowed me to have greater compassion on those who are poor.

A look into the lives of those who struggle to live and survive working minimum wage jobs. Everyone should read this book, especially those of us who did not grow up around people who work low wage jobs.  Capitalism says that there is nothing wrong with what is in this book.  That it is necessary.  Read this and imagine that this is the life you are forced to live.

This book is about homelessness, and the lives of those who are experiencing it.  A great look into what it is like, and a critique of what we are doing about it.  This book helped me better love those who are living on the streets.

This is an amazing book.  Seriously.  It talks about the affects of trauma on the brain, and how the brain of the addict is affected and different from the “normal” brain.  It helped me better understand those who are addicted to illegal substances, and learn how to better relate and love them.

This book shows how the War on Drugs is creating an underclass of people that do not have equal opportunity or equal rights with the rest of us.  This is the new way for the state to control the poor and prevent a social movement that resists injustice.  The truths revealed in this book are horrifying, but then again the truth is mostly horrifying in some regard.
